Complex Towhead Transport Project
NXGEN have successfully delivered a complex
transport & engineering solution to relocate five
towhead structures from Wick Harbour.
NXGEN provided a bare lease solution for various cranes on a large bridge project. Our valued client provided site information and details of the project, to allow NXGEN to assist with the planning and crane selection. In the initial phase of the project, our client required a reliable 100Te crawler crane to take care of the day to day lifting work. The Kobelco CK1100G-2 fitted the remit perfectly with 150ft of main boom and auxiliary hoist.
During the bridge construction, modular pontoons were built up on the water and timber load spreading mats were positioned on top of the pontoon. The crane was then mobilised on to the pontoon, and positioned next to the new bridge piers. Once the bridge piers were cast the next phase was the installation of multiple 50Te reinforced concrete bridge beams. NXGEN mobilised a 550Te capacity crawler crane Demag CC2500 to site for the installation of the bridge beams. The Kobelco CK1100G-2 made the perfect rigging crane for the Demag CC2500. The modular pontoons and timber load spreading mats were reconfigured and the CC2500 was placed on the pontoons. The bridge beams were then delivered to site and loaded on to the pontoons with the CC2500. Once at the installation area the bridge beams were installed.
Once the bridge beams were installed, the CC2500 was de mobilised from the site. The old bridge will be demolished and the process repeated the following year for the second span. The Kobelco CK1100G-2 will remain onsite to assist with the ongoing daily activities.
The NXGEN Kobelco CK1100G-2 will be onsite for two years. The reliability of the Kobelco cranes in NXGEN’s fleet make this crane a perfect choice for everyday work.
