NXGEN complete transport and construction of 4 cable reels .

Project management with a tailored service solution.

NXGEN have successfully completed the project scope for the transportation, construction and refurbishment of four reels within the Port of Blyth.

The project included a range of stages, from shipping and assembly, to refurbishment, onward transportation and final spooling operations, all of which NXGEN project managed. The first phase involved the shipment of two modular reels in their component pieces from Norway to Blyth, UK, using six vehicles.

Once in Blyth, NXGEN utilised cranes, fork lifts and cherry pickers to build the reels and install over 1,000 bolts per reel due to the modular design.

The second set of two reels received a full refurbishment at Blyth before being prepared for onward travel to Newcastle

Once assembly was complete and the refurbishments finalised, NXGEN facilitated the onward shipment via small coaster vessels. This stage included three shipments from Blyth to Newcastle: the first and last shipments each carried one reel, while the second shipment carried two.

Once in Newcastle, NXGEN utilised four existing loaded reels to trans-spool 5,500m of umbilical’s onto the four empty reels shipped from Blyth NXGEN was responsible for managing and facilitating every aspect of the project. This included overseeing the marine transport by chartering the ships, arranging shoreside cranage at both ports and engineering the sea-fastening design.

NXGEN also completed the sea-fastening design/calculations and stowage plans for the reels on the vessels and supplied lashing materials to secure them during transit. Additionally, the team supervised the transport, construction, refurbishment and spooling of reels, ensuring all activities were efficiently executed in Blyth and on the Tyne.
